Definitions
Definitions - Welcome to the world of SCATS terminology! - SCATS – Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System. SCATS is the property of the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW.
- Region – A group of intersections, usually located within specific geographical area, and controlled by a software module within SCATS software suite.
- Personality- (also: Personality data) A set of instructions used by a SCATS compliant Traffic Signal Controller. Those instructions describe the behaviour of the controller at a specific Intersection.
- Sub-System - a group of intersections logically linked together to perpetuate a uniform traffic flow “green wave”. This group of intersections will have certain parameters linked and changed simultaneously.
- Stage – a set of traffic movements at a specific intersection operating simultaneously. Also known as 'phase'.
- Flexilink – Mode of operation of Traffic Signal Controller(s) whereby a group of controllers are operating in unison. This operation allows basic time based synchronised operation of a group of traffic controllers. This mode of operation can be active with or without SCATS, but it requires a specific set of data for the SCATS compliant controllers to follow.
- Masterlink – Mode of operation of traffic Signal Controller(s) whereby a controller is under full control of SCATS.
- Group – a set of RED YELLOW and GREEN lanterns
- Detector – a device capable to detect the presence of vehicles travelling on the road and convey all relevant information regarding those vehicles to SCATS in acceptable format.
- Loop Detector - A device utilising an inductive loop to detect the presence of vehicles. It operates on the principle of detection of change of inductance due to the presence of the vehicles.
- Video Detector - device utilising video camera as an active element in the detection of vehicles.
